Frequently asked questions
- Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?
- No. The files are read into your browser's memory and combined there using JavaScript. Nothing is sent over the network, nothing is stored, and no one else can see the documents. This makes the tool safe for contracts, passports, medical records and anything else you would not want to upload.
- Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
- There is no artificial cap. The practical limit is your device's memory, since the whole document has to be held in RAM while it is built. Very large scanned files on an older phone are the case most likely to struggle; on a laptop, merging dozens of ordinary documents is fine.
- Does merging reduce quality?
- No. Pages are copied across as-is, so text stays selectable, images keep their original resolution, and nothing is re-encoded. The merged file is normally close to the combined size of the originals.
- Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
- Files that only carry an owner password will usually merge. A PDF encrypted with a user password — one that asks for a password before it will open at all — cannot be read without that password, so it cannot be merged here.
- What happens to bookmarks and form fields?
- Page content, text and images are preserved exactly. Document-level features such as bookmarks, form fields and attachments are not carried into the merged file. If you need those, keep the originals as well.
