About these tools

File formats are mostly invisible until something refuses to open, and then they are the only thing that matters. These converters handle the everyday cases: Word documents into PDF, spreadsheets into CSV, HEIC photos from an iPhone into JPEG, images into PDF, and a handful of formats that Windows and Android disagree about.

The conversion happens on your machine using libraries downloaded to the page — mammoth for Word, SheetJS for spreadsheets, libheif compiled to WebAssembly for HEIC. Nothing is queued on a server, so a large file is limited by your own device rather than by someone's free tier, and a document with anything confidential in it stays where it is.

Converting is lossy more often than people expect. A Word file turned into a PDF keeps its layout but loses its editability; a spreadsheet saved as CSV keeps the numbers and loses the formulas, the formatting and every sheet except the first. When a conversion has to be reversible, keep the original rather than planning to convert back.
