Compress video

Make a video small enough to send, without uploading it anywhere.

Phone video is large because it is recorded at full resolution and a generous bitrate, and most of that is wasted on a clip someone will watch on a phone anyway. Pick what you are sending it for and the file is re-encoded on your own device. It never reaches a server, which is also why there is no size limit beyond what your browser can hold.

How to use it

  1. Add the video you want to make smaller.
  2. Choose what you are sending it for.
  3. Press Compress video, then download the result.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will it get?
Usually between five and twenty times, depending on what you choose. A one-minute phone clip of 120 MB typically comes out between 6 and 25 MB. The saving comes from resolution as much as from quality, which is why each setting also caps the width.
Does the quality suffer?
Yes, that is the trade. For Telegram and For email are visibly softer on a large screen and look fine on a phone. Keep quality barely changes what you see and still saves a useful amount.
Why is it slower than an app on my computer?
A desktop app uses your graphics card and every processor core. This runs inside a browser tab, on one core, for safety reasons that also keep the rest of the site working. Expect roughly real time: a two-minute video takes about two minutes.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The video engine is downloaded to your browser and the file is processed there. Nothing is sent to us, which you can confirm by turning off your connection after the page has loaded. The compression still works.
