JPG to PNG
Convert JPG images to lossless PNG.
PNG keeps every pixel exactly, so a photo usually comes out several times larger than the JPG — a 4 MB photo can become 20 MB or more. PNG is worth it for screenshots, logos, diagrams and anything needing transparency; for photographs, JPG is the better format.
Add a JPG and download it as a PNG. Useful when a tool or upload form insists on PNG, or when you are about to edit an image and want no further compression applied on each save.

Frequently asked questions
- Does converting improve quality?
- No, and this is worth being clear about. Whatever JPEG discarded is already gone — PNG simply stops any further loss. It preserves what is there rather than restoring what was lost.
- Why is the PNG so much bigger?
- PNG is lossless, so it stores every pixel exactly, including the compression artefacts JPEG introduced. A photograph converted to PNG is commonly several times larger than the JPEG it came from.
- When is this worth doing?
- When something requires PNG, or when you are about to edit and re-save repeatedly — each JPEG save compounds the loss, while PNG saves do not. It is also useful before adding transparency.
- Will it have transparency?
- The format supports it, but the image will not gain any: a JPEG has no transparency to carry over, so the result is fully opaque. You would need an editor to remove a background.
