Frequently asked questions
- Why is my photo sideways in the first place?
- Phones store the picture as the sensor saw it and add a note saying which way the phone was held. Apps that ignore that note show it sideways. This tool reads the note, applies it, and then saves the picture actually turned the right way — so it looks correct everywhere afterwards.
- Does rotating lose quality?
- A quarter turn moves whole pixels, so nothing is blurred or resampled. A JPG is saved again at high quality, which costs a very small amount on any re-save; a PNG or WebP loses nothing at all.
- What is the difference between rotating and flipping?
- Rotating turns the picture. Flipping mirrors it, the way a mirror reverses left and right — useful for a selfie that came out backwards, or for scanned film that was fed in the wrong way round. Text in a flipped picture reads backwards, which is the quick way to tell them apart.
- Is my picture uploaded anywhere?
- No. The turn happens inside your browser, on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, which is also why it keeps working with the tab offline once the page has loaded.
