Resize image
Change an image's width and height in pixels, or crop it first, keeping the proportions. The work is done in your browser, so the picture stays on your device.

How the resizing works
The picture is read into your browser's memory and decoded; HEIC photos from iPhones are opened with a WebAssembly decoder, and the rotation stored by the camera is applied to the pixels. You can resize the whole picture or drag a box around Part of it. The width and height start from the picture's own size, or the box's, and with Keep aspect ratio ticked the other side follows whatever you type, rounded to a whole pixel; the 25, 50 and 75% buttons set both at once. The browser then redraws the picture, or just the box, onto a canvas of the new size with its high-quality smoothing and saves it again. The result is named with the new size, for example photo-800x600. A preview is shown at up to 640 pixels on the long side, whatever the real size.
Limits
It takes one image per run, up to 100 MB, in JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC. PNG and WebP keep their format; JPEG and HEIC photos come out as JPEG. JPEG and WebP are saved at a fixed quality of 92%, so they are lossy, and there is no quality setting here. Transparency is kept in PNG and WebP and becomes white in JPEG. The EXIF data, location and colour profile of the original are dropped. There is no upper limit on the new size, so asking for a huge picture can fail where a browser limits canvas size, which is more likely on a phone. With Keep aspect ratio unticked, a crop is stretched to the width and height you give.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I reduce an image's size in pixels?
- Type a smaller width or height, or press 50%, and the other side follows. Halving both sides leaves a quarter of the pixels, so the file is usually much lighter too. For a lighter file at the same dimensions, use Compress image instead.
- Can I crop and resize in one step?
- Yes. Choose Part of it, drag the box over the area you want, and the width and height start from the size of that area. Change them to scale the cut-out. There is also a Crop image page that opens straight into this mode.
- Can I rotate the picture here?
- No. This page resizes and crops only. To turn a picture, use Rotate image.
- Will the image get stretched?
- Not while 'Keep aspect ratio' is ticked — changing one dimension updates the other automatically. Untick it only when you genuinely want to distort the image, which is rare.
- Can I make an image larger?
- You can, but enlarging cannot add detail that is not there. The result will look soft, and the bigger the increase the more obvious it becomes. Resizing down is always safe; resizing up is a compromise.
- Does it keep the original format?
- Yes. A PNG stays a PNG and a WebP stays a WebP, so resizing does not quietly change the file type. To change format as well, use one of the converter tools afterwards.
- Why is the resized file sometimes larger?
- Re-encoding is not always smaller, particularly when the source was heavily compressed and the new file is written at higher quality. If size matters more than dimensions, use Compress image instead.
