Frequently asked questions
- Will the image get stretched?
- Not while 'Keep aspect ratio' is ticked — changing one dimension updates the other automatically. Untick it only when you genuinely want to distort the image, which is rare.
- Can I make an image larger?
- You can, but enlarging cannot add detail that is not there. The result will look soft, and the bigger the increase the more obvious it becomes. Resizing down is always safe; resizing up is a compromise.
- Does it keep the original format?
- Yes. A PNG stays a PNG and a WebP stays a WebP, so resizing does not quietly change the file type. To change format as well, use one of the converter tools afterwards.
- Why is the resized file sometimes larger?
- Re-encoding is not always smaller, particularly when the source was heavily compressed and the new file is written at higher quality. If size matters more than dimensions, use Compress image instead.
