Frequently asked questions
- Why does my video look fine on my phone but sideways everywhere else?
- Because the phone stored the orientation as a flag rather than rotating the picture. Your gallery reads the flag; a lot of desktop players, web uploaders and messaging apps do not. Turning the pixels removes the disagreement.
- Does rotating lose quality?
- A little. The video has to be re-encoded, and any re-encode costs something. This uses a high quality setting so the loss is not visible in normal viewing, but it is not the bit-for-bit copy that removing the sound would be.
- What is the difference between mirror and rotate?
- Rotating turns the picture a quarter or a half turn. Mirror flips it left to right, which is what you want for footage from a selfie camera where text reads backwards.
- Does the video leave my device?
- No. Your browser downloads the video engine and rotates the file on your own device. You can turn off your connection after the page has loaded and it still works.
