Frequently asked questions
- What resolution should I pick?
- 720p is enough for anything watched on a phone and for most messaging apps. 1080p is the sensible ceiling for a laptop screen. Below 480p, text on screen starts to become hard to read.
- Can I make a video bigger?
- No, deliberately. Upscaling invents pixels that were never recorded: the file gets several times larger and not one bit sharper. Asking for 1080p from a 720p video leaves it at 720p.
- Will it stay the right shape?
- Yes. Only the height is set, and the width follows from it, so nothing is stretched or squashed. If you need a different shape, use the social media sizes tool instead.
- How much smaller will the file be?
- Roughly in proportion to the pixels. Going from 1080p to 720p removes about half of them and usually lands somewhere near half the size, though the exact figure depends on how much movement is in the footage.
