PDF to EPUB

Turn a PDF into an e-book that reflows on a phone, with chapters, or keep its pages as pictures.

The PDF is converted in your browser and never uploaded. Text becomes an e-book that reflows on any screen; scans, comics and slides can keep their pages as pictures.

The PDF is converted in your browser and never uploaded. Choose a file and the page reads it first: how many pages carry text, whether that text is damaged or came from a scanner, and how many chapters it found. A text book becomes an EPUB whose paragraphs reflow on any screen, with chapters taken from the PDF's own contents or its headings; running headers and page numbers are removed, and words split across lines are joined again. Scans, comics and slide decks can keep their pages as pictures instead.

How to use it

  1. Drop a PDF on the page or choose it from your device.
  2. Check the title and author, and choose text that reflows or pages kept as pictures.
  3. Press Convert to EPUB and download the book.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is read and the EPUB is written inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, which is also why a long book takes a little while on a slow phone.
Will the EPUB look like the PDF?
As reflowing text you get the book's words, paragraphs, headings, bold and italics, lists and code, laid out for whatever screen you read on, but not the PDF's fonts, columns or exact positions, and pictures that sit inside text pages are not carried over. As pictures, every page looks exactly as it did, but the text does not reflow.
Which should I choose, text or pictures?
Text for anything that is mostly writing: novels, textbooks, articles, reports. Pictures for comics, scanned books without usable text, slide decks and anything whose meaning is in the layout. The page suggests one after reading your file.
Why does it suggest pictures for my PDF?
Either the PDF has almost no text, as a scan or a comic does, or it is a slide deck, or its text is damaged: some PDFs, often ones printed from a browser, draw letters that are not stored as text at all, so any converter would lose them. Pictures keep every page readable.
Does it work with scanned books?
If the scan carries recognised text, as most from the Internet Archive and from office scanners do, that text becomes the book, and pages where only noise was recognised stay as pictures. Recognition can make mistakes, which no converter can correct. A scan with no text at all is converted as pictures.
