Voice recorder
Record your voice in the browser, with a level meter so you know it is working.
Your browser will ask for the microphone. Nothing leaves your device.
A microphone, a timer and a level meter. Like the screen recorder, this needs no download at all — the browser records by itself, so it starts the instant you give permission and the file is ready the moment you stop. The level meter matters more than it sounds: the commonest way to lose a recording is to make the whole thing with the wrong microphone selected and only find out afterwards.
How to use it
- Press Start recording and allow access to the microphone.
- Speak. Watch the level meter move so you know it is hearing you.
- Press Stop, then download the recording.

Frequently asked questions
- Is there a time limit?
- No. It runs until you stop it. Very long recordings are held in memory until then, so on a phone it is worth stopping and starting again every so often rather than running for hours.
- The level meter is not moving. What is wrong?
- The browser is recording from a microphone that cannot hear you — usually a headset that is connected but not being worn, or a webcam microphone facing away. Change the input in your system sound settings and start again.
- What format is the recording?
- WebM audio in most browsers and M4A in Safari. For an MP3, run the result through Convert audio, which the result card offers as the next step.
- Can I record a phone call with this?
- No. A browser can only reach the microphone, so it would capture your side and whatever the speaker is loud enough to pick up. Recording calls is also regulated in many places.
